WINNER: NEW HAMPSHIRE HOME MAGAZINE | DESIGN AWARDS - outdoor design: landscape
IN VISUALIZING THEIR NEW HOME, our clients had clear goals including, “… a sense of history... with a timelessness that will last through generations.”, “… comfortable and convenient for all age ranges.” and they were excited to reclaim elements of the original home for reuse. Reclaimed items included salvaging the fieldstone fireplace, hand-hewn timbers, windows, doors, barn board, and plumbing fixtures. Designing the main living space around the fireplace in roughly its original location helped the homeowners include the family history into the new home.
Accessibility was critical indoors and outside. Exterior landscape ramps, an elevator, and appropriate detailing throughout the home and property were integral. Built with durability and longevity in mind, materials such as brick, pavers, New Hampshire field stone, solid bluestone steps, and cedar on the house, decks, and garden fences were all important considerations.
