Big Grey Rock

Located in the Lakes Region in New Hampshire, Big Grey Rock is aptly named for the abundance of exposed granite ledge dominating the natural landscape. Environmental sensitivity, enhancement of the site’s natural elements, and the use of native and natural materials guided the landscape design throughout the property.

Guests arrive in a stately entry court paved with reclaimed granite slabs, establishing a sense of scale, maturity, and endurance before stepping into the residence. Opposite the front door, a naturalistic waterfall cascades down a ledge stone face, providing visual and audible interest both upon arrival and from the formal dining room. Artfully crafted fieldstone walls and reclaimed granite steps lead visitors around the home, meandering among natural rock outcroppings and existing trees. Patios and pathways of oversized Goshen stone flagging complement the dark greys and rust tones found throughout the site’s existing stone and minerals.

A profusion of plant material fills the areas surrounding the home and drive. Creeping woodland natives, fruit-filled shrubs, and a medley of specimen trees soften the abundant stone while enhancing the beauty of the landscape across all seasons.
