Bonin Architects' Winning Silver Park Shelter Design to be Built in September
July 2008: Jeremy Bonin's winning design for the Timber Framers Guild’s Silver Park Small Shelter Project is scheduled to be raised the week of September 21, 2008 in Missoula, Montana. The Guild will host a week-long workshop to cut the structure, giving participants "an excellent opportunity for honing their skills in compound joinery.” Bonin's shelter, plus two other winning designs that are being cut at local shops, will be raised on site at Silver Park, a 14.5-acre public space situated along the Clark River across from downtown Missoula at the end of the workshop.
December 2007: The Timber Framers Guild, a nonprofit educational membership association dedicated to the craft of timber framing, announced Jeremy Bonin, AIA NCARB LEED AP as one of three winners of its Silver Park Design Competition. The goal of the competition was to create three small log and/or timber shelters with benches in Silver Park, Missoula, Montana. Silver Park, formerly a mill site and originally owned by Morris Silver in the 1930s and then by the F. Morris & Helen Silver Foundation, will be a 15-acre public space owned by the city of Missoula. Situated along the river across from downtown Missoula, it connects to and extends Missoula's river trail system. The park's theme celebrates the heritage of timber in Western Montana.
Designs were judged anonymously on the overall aesthetic design, creative use of materials, originality and how well they met specific design parameters for the project. The winning structures will be built at the International Log Builders Association workshop and at the Timber Framers Guild Conference.
Jury's comments:
"I love the expression of this joyous and seemingly free-form design that gets great visual 'liftoff'."
"The fluidness of this design echoes the mountains of Montana. This design gives the builder a chance to work on compound connections, skewed angles and interesting roof applications."

1st Annual Lakeside Living Expo, Gunstock Mountain Resort, Gilford, NH |
Jeremy and I would like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth during last weekend's Lakeside Living Expo in Gilford, NH. Thank you to Suzette and Blair Anthony for coordinating the event which was held at Gunstock Mountain. The Expo was well organized and held outside under tents, which allowed for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
During the three day event, we met many great people from all over the area interested in designing a timber frame or conventionally built home incorporating sustainable features. We look forward to starting the design process with our newest clients and we welcome questions anytime.

Bonin Architects & Associates adds Marketing Director to staff
We're excited to announce the hire of Jackie Lampiasi to the position of Marketing Director! With all of our new clients (see our On The Boards section), and incredible interest in our services at the Log & Timber Frame Home Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, we see the need to start delegating office duties while Jeremy and I focus on sustainable home design, timber frame design and the management of our projects as they start to move forward into the bidding and construction phases.
Jackie brings a wealth of knowledge to Bonin Architects with over thirteen years' experience in the log and timber frame industry. In addition to her terrific event coordination and professional customer service, Jackie will design print ads and printed literature and promote green homes for article consideration in national magazines. As an added bonus to us, she's a skilled bookkeeper and will be handling all our books!
We know you'll enjoy reading her entries on our blog. Jackie is always looking for something to research in green building and she's eager to tell you what she learns!
